Texas Tech (7-1) is No. 9 in both polls, but gets slotted one spot higher for CFP purposes. Its loss came to defending conference champion Arizona State, 26-22. If it gets by BYU, it will have easy sledding with Central Florida and West Virginia rounding out the schedule.
Texas and Oklahoma are ranked at Nos. 11-12 but would be on the outside looking in because of the ranking criteria that could see No. 14 Virginia make the playoffs because they are the highest-ranked team from the ACC. As down as the league appears, it still gets an automatic berth.
