Incoming New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani‘s landslide victory on Tuesday has emboldened the Democratic Party’s left wing, lending hopes of victory to several socialist congressional candidates hostile to Israel.

The ADL’s new “Mamdani Monitor" targets Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani over antisemitism concerns, but some Jewish groups say the move is unfair.

The Pennsylvania governor, who is Jewish, previously criticized the New York mayor-elect for not condemning “blatantly antisemitic” rhetoric.

Zohran Mamdani, a vocal pro-Palestinian advocate, has been a critic of Israel’s war in Gaza. He described Hamas’s Oct. 7, 2023, attack as a “war crime” but asserted that the U.S. government is complicit in what he terms Israel’s “genocidal war” on Gaza.

Mamdani announced Elana Leopold will lead his transition team, joined by former FTC Commissioner Lena Khan, former First Deputy Mayor Maria Torres-Springer, United Way CEO Grace Bonilla, and former Deputy Mayor Melanie Hartzog.

Robert Tucker, a Jewish philanthropist and businessman, will step down from the role he has held for just over 12 months.

After the ADL announced its scrutiny of Zohran Mamdani, the mayor-elect told reporters, "I take the issue of antisemitism incredibly seriously."

A leaked Democratic Socialists of America document outlining the organization's demands for Zohran Mamdani (D) has left many social media users stunned.

Mamdani was joined in the protest by other radicals, including Siraj Wahhaj, a Brooklyn imam who was an unindicted co-conspirator in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing and once acted as a character witness for Omar Abdel-Rahman, the terrorist who organized it. Mamdani recently came under fire for campaigning with Wahhaj.
