California Attorney General Rob Bonta led 20 states in a lawsuit on Tuesday alleging the Trump administration unlawfully shared public health insurance information with Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

The lawsuit argues that federal law only allows states and the federal government to share Medicaid enrollees’ personal data if necessary to run the program or to identify fraud.

states say the administration bypassed legal safeguards in granting immigration officials access to health data
