This year's ballot features three Democratic justices up for retention: Christine Donohue, Kevin Dougherty and David Wecht. They are not facing any opponent on a ballot. The state Supreme Court has seven justices: five Democrats and two Republicans.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson said the pause will remain in effect until the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issues a judgment on the matter.

Judge John McConnell in Rhode Island ruled that the U.S. Department of Agriculture would need to release partial funds by Wednesday, Nov. 5.

“We’ve received confirmation that payments went through, including members reporting they can now see their balances,” she said.
