Already, the Hawks have turned Trae Young and Vit Krejci into CJ McCollum, Corey Kispert, Duop Reath, and two second rounders. But clearly, the decision-makers see an opportunity to try to set the franchise up for more success either in the short term or the long term (or ideally both).
It's just a weird aftermath to a trade that some saw coming but also developed quickly, when the Atlanta Hawks traded Young to the Wizards for CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert, no draft picks involved, basically just dumping Young for expiring contracts.
The four-time All-Star wasn't brought in to be a franchise savior, the Wizards say. He was brought in to cultivate the player they believe is their next one, former No. 2 pick Alex Sarr.
