For all workers, one area of medicine has seen claims shoot up. Between January 2023 and December 2024, inpatient mental-health claims grew by 80%, while outpatient claims were up 40%. The greatest increase was for claims due to anxiety, depression and developmental disorders.

The money would come from the Rural Health Transformation Program, a $50 billion fund included in the "One Big Beautiful Bill" Act.

Is the health care system financially sustainable? When the HFMA asked industry experts, the answer was a resounding "no."

The model aims to deliver primary care locally while leveraging "hubs" that offer specialty medical services to neighboring counties.

Storey, a graphic designer and owner of a small business in Denver, said she doesn't receive the ACA tax credits. But in a notice from her insurance provider, Blue Cross Blue Shield, which she shared with ABC News, her monthly premiums are set to rise from $1,400 to nearly $1,900.
