The UConn women’s basketball team has a new member! The Huskies signed Jovana Popovic, a guard from Serbia. She is the first UConn player
Amid a 4-0 start to the 2025-26 season, the UConn women’s basketball team landed four players on the 50-player watchlist for the Wooden Award. Redshirt senior guard Azzi Fudd, sophomore forward Sarah Strong and senior forward Serah Williams were selected after all three also made the preseason watchlists for the Naismith Trophy and Wade Trophy.
The last top-five showdown involving the Huskies was on April 6, 2024, in the national championship game in Arizona, when top-ranked UConn faced No. 3 Purdue. That one worked pretty well for the Huskies, who nabbed their second straight and sixth overall national title with a 75-60 win over Zach Edey & Co.
Fudd said the Huskies held some “very fast, upbeat” practices this week to prepare for the Wolverines. Michigan averages 29.8 forced turnovers and 15.2 steals per game. The Huskies are forcing opponents into 23.8 turnovers per game while averaging 15.5 steals per contest.
Former UConn players have found out just how tough it is to make a name for yourself in the world’s best league, and while a few of them are excelling, some are facing uncertain times ahead.
