The St. Louis Cardinals are close to finalizing a trade to send All-Star infielder Brendan Donovan to the Seattle Mariners, multiple sources tell The Athletic. According to a league source, the move may be part of a three-team deal.

Following the Brendan Donovan blockbuster trade, the Cardinals must decide whether holding a standout bullpen arm is the smarter path forward.

ICYMI: The Mariners have acquired All-Star infielder Brendan Donovan in a three-team trade with the St. Louis Cardinals and Tampa Bay Rays. Top prospects Jurrangelo Cijntje and Tai Peete have been sent to the Cardinals, in addition to a 2026 Comp B draft pick from both the Mariners and Rays, and third baseman Ben Williamson is headed to Tampa Bay.
