San Francisco International Airport was among the major U.S. air-travel hubs to face cancellations as the federal government places limits on air travel.

Sacramento International Airport said it may see some ripple effects after the Federal Aviation Administration ordered a reduction in flights across the country to cope with the government shutdown and federal air traffic controllers working without pay.

The Federal Aviation Administration is cutting 10% of flights at many of the nation's busiest airports across the country starting Friday. This includes Logan International Airport in Boston, which could affect some Massachusetts residents.

The Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation has requested a full waiver from the air traffic reduction at all Hawaiʻi airports. If it’s granted, the state says it will pay for the essential staff needed to maintain full flight schedules.

City Council recently OK'd an attempt to join onto a lawsuit filed by King County, Wash., against HUD and other agencies.

On Thursday afternoon, long security lines stretched through the terminal; lines that airport staff said look more like early morning crowds than midday traffic.
