More than a dozen suburban Chicago mothers were arrested outside an immigration detention facility in Broadview, Illinois, on Friday, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office, in a protest against the ongoing immigration crackdown in the area launched by U.

The incident involving Border Patrol Commander Greg Bovino, has been a key part of the court proceedings challenging immigration tactics in Chicago.

The mayor of Chicago on Friday invited a panel of independent United Nations experts to examine what he called the federal government’s “abusive immigration crackdowns” in the nation’s third-largest city.

The preliminary injunction hearing stems from a lawsuit filed by news outlets and protesters who say agents have used too much force, including tear gas, during demonstrations.

Allegations over excessive use-of-force by federal immigration agents in the Chicago area during "Operation Midway Blitz" will be a key focus during a hearing Wednesday morning at Dirksen Federal Courthouse.

The government said the requirements would 'effectively prohibit ICE from temporarily holding any individual in the state of Illinois.'

It was unusual even under “Operation Midway Blitz,” which has resulted in more than 3,000 immigration arrests in the Chicago area since early September. Agents have rappelled from a Black Hawk helicopter in a middle-of-the night apartment building raid, appeared with overwhelming force in recreational areas and launched tear gas amid protests.

The order will be in effect for 14 days. It requires officials to provide detainees at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility in the west Chicago suburb of Broadview with a clean bedding mat and sufficient space to sleep, soap, towels, toilet paper, toothbrushes, toothpaste, menstrual products and prescribed medications.
