President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump will meet at the White House on Thursday with Edan Alexander, the last living American hostage in Gaza, who was released in May.

Released after almost two years of captivity, Edan Alexander and his parents were scheduled to meet with President Trump and the first lady.

The White House said the president and first lady "greatly look forward" to welcoming Edan Alexander and his family.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit President Trump at the White House next week as Israel focuses on diplomacy with their Middle East neighbors. White House spokesperson Anna Kelly told CBS News in a statement that the "decision was made to put America's interests first following" a Defense Department "review of our nation's military support and assistance to other countries across the globe.
